  1. So I have the Sony PSP Star Wars Battlefront Renegade Squadron Entertainment Pack – Ceramic White for about three weeks now in the possession. I have never owned the original PSP, and usually have it for “Remote Play” functionality with the PS3 (eg remote access to your PS3 with the PSP and a WiFi connection). Simply put, the PSP is AWESOME. Seriously.

    The good:

    1 Aesthetics / design / construction.
The white slim looks and feels great. I briefly owned the black slim, before he can get it and the white. The black looked smooth, but it was a real fingerprint magnet. The white looks better, very simple and clean. Fingerprints do not show up on either is a lot, it’s great. The slim silver was just too cheap looking, like the silver was painted on, so I never considered it. Nice, like the back is completely flat and, unlike old as the PSP. The non-spring door battery cover is in order. I was after reading the posts, as it is cheap and fragile feeling worried, but it’s good. It is easy to open / close, gives a nice “snap” when it opens or closes, will not break if you do not rough with it (care needed), and worries at the door spring mechanism malfunctions. I never had an original PSP 1000, but the slim feels solid and not cheap at all to me.

    2 Screen.
Very bright, beautiful 480×272 resolution. Movies and games only on it big.

    3 Music.
MP3s (and WMA support as well) sound great on the PSP. Visualization is about six different “patterns” that are of interest. The interface looks good, better, in fact, the music player interface on the PS3, features, and all the important information, and an on / off switch also. Latest Firmware now allows it to be played while viewing photos.

    4 for the music Video.
Ability to produce full 480×272 video off of files stored on the Memory Stick was running a bone of contention in the first few years, as Sony had apparently crippled video file on the Memory Stick to a max resolution of 320×240 to encourage “users to buy overpriced UMDs. A few months ago Sony saw the error of his ways and turned to user requests, and now the PSP is fully capable of playing back 480×272 (PSP’s native resolution) video off of videos stored on the Memory Stick. With the Freeware “PSP Video 9, you can create video files ranging from 700 MB (~ 5h first video) to 1GB (~ 2 hours) that look and sound as good as a UMD movie.
    ;
The functionality is also great, with the newer firmwares you can through your video file for scenes from different time points (1,2, or 5 minutes), which is great, because your own video files is a single file to search. This is really not to be underestimated in its usefulness, plus it is to use really cool!

    5 Photos.
The Photo Viewer is pretty cool as well, but could use a bit more customization. You can use standard file types (jpg, gif, bmp, tiff and I think) and have a few slideshow and zoom options. The background of the photo, the resolution is 480×272 not know which fail on a different color (black, as may be amended), which is not a big deal, but I hope Sony allows you to use a black background in the future .

    6th Games.
This is obviously the most important feature of the PSP. I had not expected the games to be good, but there are quite a few very good games. So far my favorites: Silent Hill Origins, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty / Vice City Stories, NBA 08, Outrun 2006, Burnout Legends, FIFA 08, Madden 08, Legend of Heroes, Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron, Daxter, Wipeout Pure, and Siphon Filter: Dark Mirror. They would in graphics, gameplay, story, sound (his music / voice-overs) of this small system surprised is able! Some of these are just great games.

7th Remote Play / LocationFree Player.
This is the original reason I bought the PSP, remotely (via wireless) to connect to my PS3 and access your music, videos, photos and even games on it. If it works, it’s just really, really cool. The PS3 interface is shown on the PSP screen (what you want for quality based on bandwidth to be adapted to put him – there are five different settings), and you can watch movies, trailers, photos, audio, play, even some games ( like Lair!) on your PSP. I used a LocationFree player yet, but basically it’s like a Slingbox on the PSP, so you watch TV, access your DVR, etc., on the PSP via a WiFi connection. I plan to try it one day, sure.

    8 Internet.
You can use the browser to surf the Internet use on the PSP, if you have access to WiFi. It works well enough, and the key input system is pretty neat for a non-QWERTY/touchscreen input system.

    9 Functionality / performance.
The much maligned battery life is really not that bad. Listen with the PSP to mp3s, watch videos, play games, I get about 3-4 hours (depending on how much video / games I watch / play), I get through the average usage easily. For longer trips, I have the 2200mAh (OEM) battery extends the great works and gives me about 6-8 hours of use. Unbelievable. The battery will hold out the back, but you can go DealExtreme dot-com and buy a bigger battery cover (black or white) for less than four dollars. Sony is apparently an official release Extended Battery kit with a larger battery cover in black and silver (no white but booo!) For about $ 45 sometime during the next month or so.

of the game I’ve never been a slowdown in frame rate or crashes ever. Not even to over 14 games I now own. Strong performance. Videos and music also work flawlessly. Load times are not so bad, and does not bother me much, since it is usually only at the beginning, and so game play during the games very fast.

The XMB (Cross Media Bar) User Interface is fantastic and so easy to use and quite stylish as well. Love to use it. Video out to TV is a cool feature that I have not used.

    The Not-so-good:

1 Fingerprint magnet (black PSP). White one has no problems with this.
2 Can not change background color to black when looking at photos.
    3 Wifi is 802nd 11b only, No 802nd 11g (faster) support. . . yet.
4 Remote play is hit or miss with regard to connectivity. Still not easy to connect to the PS3. We hope that Sony improve on this with updates. Remote ON / OFF the PS3 works well enough, though.
5 Soon after the Extended Battery Kit will be released not include a white cover. No big problem, just to go DealExtreme dot-com found on a white from Hong Kong (, cheap).
6th Limited audio / video codec support, including no DivX / XviD support yet for video and AAC for audio. But with PSP Video 9 (freeware) to convert videos works just fine for converting videos from most species in the visible 480×272 (or less if you like) mp4 video.
7th UMD spinning noise is a bit loud / hard on the ears, but fortunately only rarely, and it revolves mostly at the beginning of the game or in rare cases, during the game (eg, loading new levels, etc.).
; 8 Volume on audio / video playback from the Memory Stick is too quiet! Setting “dynamic normalization” under “Audio” settings, it helps louder, but it is still too soft. The volume of the speaker is ok, but I always use headphones so I can not really judge.
9 Expensive assessories. Getting a couple of extended batteries, a charger, a nice case, a Screen Protector, UMD some cases, headphones, wrist strap, a couple of games, a nice Memory Stick PRO Duo (I have the 8GB one – you will not want less) and the price quickly jumps to almost PS3 section (slightly over $ 500).
10th Cool accessories only available in Japan, including a camera, GPS and DMB (mobile television). I really do not know this but miss.

    Bottom Line:

How to judge from my long post, I love my new white PSP slim. It is so funny, versatile and cool (Remote Play will impress your friends and family) that you will not regret it plop down some serious cash to build Slim PSP system!

  2. I had to have the original PSP, very stable and very portable game systems. Unfortunately, I broke down and another 200 + to replace spend. . . . not! Now, Sony brings the Star Wars Limited Edition; to any true fan can not pass them. At first thought of the thing, I thought, I have cheated. Felt like someone just took the innards of the machine and left the shell. Same great performance of the original but so much easier. Although it does get as stable as the original, but playing within minutes, you will forget about the old PSP. In a nutshell, to replace a broken PSP or acquire, for the first time, that’s it. Especially with free shipping and no tax. . . .

  3. Ok, I have the most reviews here on the “new” PSP Slim, and I will only chime with some of my own observations, others not yet mentioned and perhaps also some of the things that I wanted to find out, before I show my to buy their own. Note: I have the original PSP for almost two years now in the possession I have so much experience now with both models.

First, I have a lot of people knock the PSP know in Geneal, have I keep hearing people GameStop Dissing it to the DS all the time in comparison, but I am so glad that I did not listen to them. I love my PSP! As time goes by I only learned to appreciate it more and more. I must admit I’m a pretty stubborn Sony Playstation apologist at this point I might as well be on their wages, but what can I say? They had me connected with the PS1.

Meanwhile, everyone pretty much unanimously said the following about this new model: Yes, I am super lite compared to the original. Yes, it seems cheaper made and fragile. Yes, the new UMD door is poor, so the new map, the coverage is uneven and soft. And all these comments I read say, before I made my purchase me a little anxious, but now that my new slim one for a while now, let me: First is the super easy throws you out of possession, but after a week or so that you can completely customize and you can not imagine that it again easily. If you try again later to your old PSP Go, it feels like your way back to your original Game Boy or a cell phone from the late 90s. The old PSP seems like a brick after you have adjusted the slim. The new UMD door is somehow inadequate, but if you treat it kindly, it is cetainly aduquate. The same applies to the Memory Stick slot cover, but be gentle and you should have no problem. That being said, these two parts are fragile, the primary reason why I would not ever recommend the slim PSP for a child too young to take care of precision equipment is not. This is the first and only important reason why I think the DS has any kind of advantage over the PSP, the game and this selection for the kids. But if you’re a serious gamer and somewhat of a gear head, is the completely the portable PSP choice for you (more on that later).

Now, as far as the new upgrades: I have not played all my old games but I could swear during a game, the UMD, get accessed much less now. Depending on the game I can play for a few minutes now w / o the hard drive always spinning. Although the old PSP had two small holes near the bottom of the front speakers, they were actually faux! The sound actually trim out the two small holes on the bottom on the silver ran out. This virtually made no sense, so now that the speakers are really in the front position, this makes the sound louder and more direct, but the max volume is still somewhat lower than you may like, if you are in a totally peaceful position are.

One thing that I was really, really hoping they would fix it, if it came with a new PSP, a second analog stick on the right. Unfortunately, this is the one last feature of the PSP, I feel still missing painful. Too many games, esp. the first or 3 Person-shooter-type suffer greatly, as he diluted with control plans including 2 handicapped my favorite PSP games: SOCOM improvise and this new SW: Battle Ground, with my Slim (more on that later, Battle Ground). Seriously, how hard would it be to add another stick was his

Now the ability to connect to a TV: That was for me the primary selling point for me to upgrade my PSP go in. In a way, it’s the ability I have always returned for my portable systems way to my first Game Boy, but wanted to turn sad, Sony fell a bit short. It was a bittersweet upgrade, let me explain in more detail: I guess you already know that they sell Composite (5 male) cable to connect your PSP to your TV and more traditional RCA (3 connector) types. This is a mixed back confusion b / c if the RCA’s you can buy everything from your PSP on TV (pictures, music and video from your memory stick) BUT project. . . (BIG But) you can not play your PSP UMD games or movies on your TV with the RCA cable. Well, on the other side, with the composite cables you can see and do everything, but unfortunately things are not quite “perfect”. View the Cross Media Bar (XMB) and videos is just fine. (Surprisingly, the UMD movies to look really about 90-95% as good as a DVD with annomorphic played on a progressive scan DVD player on an HD monitor is blown). Also a bit surprising to me was that one-screen set-up options for your TV (4:3 or 16:9) plus have progressive or interlaced mode. (By the way, if it to 4:3 mode, it’s all in your mailbox more “square” TV screen display.) But, again, is not all good. If you surf the Web, which is actually pretty cool on your TV, you get a small black border around your field of vision, which is manageable, I think, because it does not take away too much. But. . . if you play a game, I’m still not quite get the faux pas miscalculation here. For some odd reason, ridiculous, not just the machine you automatically give a lame black frame around the image area, but, and this almost unforgivable, it distorts screen ratio. Everything is somehow stretched and compressed. This applies whether you have your display settings to 4:3 or 16:9. This makes absolutely no sense especially if you have a modern 16:9 widescreen TV, they should have just left the relationship equal. And even if your TV is like mine and you can change the elasticity of the relationship between viewing experience, the PSP is on the screen (only while playing) in a way that no matter what your image is distorted. Either too wide or too thin. I mean, I think many of you out there would care less about this game at home because it does not really hinder their game in any way, but do this type of questions I am just losing my mind. This is the main reason I lean to evaluate the new in a 4-on-5th I pray that one day in the near future they will be a network update to resolve this somehow, this screen ratio problem is space. And yes, blasted the air, the image appears almost but not quite as good as PS2, but certainly better than the old PS1. And yet I feel for those of you who are not suffering through composite connections on your TV b / c you SOL if you want to play your games on TV. Even if I want my pictures to share with someone in their place and they do not have an extra composite connection or HD TV? Do I have to go out and purchase and carry around with me a second cable only to the more common RCA-configuration have?

Now the game that comes with this white edition, and BTW, you forgot not a 1 GB (or larger) get Memory Stick Duo, because you go to a necessity. Star Wars Battlefront Rogue Squadron is one of the best infrastructures multiplayer online games for the PSP. Only it can rival SOCOM, if you’re into shooters, but I must admit I do not have all of the PSP could play online shooters out there it to be different. SW: Battlefront II for PSP plain because of its lack of online and campaign modes sucked, but this edition is the real deal. A few nitpicks from me but I am with shooters like Warhawk on my PS3 now and use these super little claustrophobic levels in Battlefront: RS takes away from the fun. Combine this with the very simple level design, and you begin to have far fewer strategic options, as a struggle against others. You just have to basically run around and face people face-2-face, and who shoots faster or has won a powerful weapon. The ability to lock on to targets is fine, but this scheme is much more finely tuned control in a game like SOCOM for the PSP. The absence of the ability to lock on to make your enemies in SW: BFII for the PSP experience, very, terrible when they try to shoot your goals. Even in a game like Warhawk, I’m spoiled with the liquid spot-on controls of your avatar. In Rouge Squadron that is something to be desired. If your character around the field is a bit choppy affair and bent down to do a 180, to appear behind you all take too long and hardly look smooth. But hey, for the PSP, I still think it’s more than worthy to play a multi-line tests.

One last thing, let me for those of you who have never been a PSP have to date confirm the ownership. Even if I have a computer for the Internet and a PS3 and an iPod, I still use the heck out of my PSP for pictures, games and music on the go. Even a very comfortable Podcast Catcher / RSS feed handler, if you’re in this kind of thing. I never knew I would with my PSP so much in this way before I received. This is one thing, my iPod can not do and what I’d rather not clutter around on my computer when I do not have to. And though I found not quite the ideal way to use this feature yet, you can get married to pair up or your PSP with your PS3 and you can actually view everything on your PS3 at home stored on your PSP anywhere you are a broadband connection! You can not play, PS3 games, which by this method, or watch DVD’s or Blu-ray yet, I still think it is better to use this ability to make in the future. I really hope all this info in my review helps you all out there because the articles I wish I could read before I decided to buy the new PSP slim.

  4. My son, who is a big fan of Star Wars, loves the PSP Entertainment Pack Star Wars. The newer PSP has good improvements (lighter, thinner, faster loading, extra features). He loves Star Wars Battlefront and design. Overall a good value for the system and games.

We bought the component cable to connect the new PSP to a TV. While the image quality is not high def by any means, he likes the ability to play his PSP games, while the TV is missing at home.

Note this new PSP pack some important accessories from the original model sold as a Memory Stick, bag, strap, and ear plugs. If you instead of a PSP, which is a very good package. Is this to make sure someone new, you can pick up accessories required (including a screen protector).

  5. I bought the system for my 11-year-old son. He loves it. He has given each hand had gaming system that they do, and we are very satisfied with the graphics and the ease of the system very happy. The possibility of obtaining, on-line is a bonus. He is really not use music and video functions. The only thing I suggest is to add a screen protector and get a carry case to protect the screen because it is not close to protect them.
